DESCRIPTION:We are planning the 4th Annual Flaughless 5K memorial run/walk in Vinton on Saturday\, October 10\, 2015 for our good friend\, Dan Flaugh\, a life-long Vinton resident and former US Army soldier who served in Baghdad\, Iraq. After returning\, Dan struggled with PTSD and took his own life in December 2011 at the age of 25. The Flaughless 5K was started by Dan’s friends and family in 2012 as a memorial to Dan and a tribute to all soldiers struggling with the mental and physical damages of war. The proceeds from the Flaughless 5K benefit the Wounded Warrior Project® Thanks to your support and generosity\, the has raised more than $45\,000 for WWP since it began in 2012. More than 500 people\, including runners\, walkers\, volunteers\, family\, friends and spectators\, attended the events at Riverside Park in Vinton. DESCRIPTION:WILDWOOD HILLS RANCH\nThere is nothing like Wildwood Hills Ranch anywhere in the Midwest. Our 400 acre facility is set in the scenic hills of Madison County\, just south of Des Moines. Our organization was founded in 2001 with the mission of providing life-changing opportunities and camp programs for at-risk and disadvantaged children. Kids from across the state are offered hope and love while being challenged to grow into leaders and people of integrity who contribute to the communities in which they live. \nWHO WE SERVE\nDuring the first three years\, Wildwood Hills Ranch served more than 800 at-risk children\, ages 8 – 16 from all over Iowa. We collaborate with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters\, Boys and Girls Clubs and Hope Ministries\, as well as the Department of Human Services and local schools to identify and assist the hundreds of at-risk children that we serve. Financial supporters include individuals\, businesses\, and foundations such as Variety the Children’s Charity\, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation\, the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation\, Roy J. Carver Foundation\, among others. DESCRIPTION:The 4th annual Hy Noon Kiwanis Storm the Lake Triathlon is a charity event for Kiwanis International Eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. Your registration fee will be given to the “Eliminate” fundraiser. Join other athletes at beautiful Storm Lake\, IA King’s Pointe Waterpark and Resort. Swim in the protected bay\, bike around the lake and run along the lake finishing at the flower lined path. All transition areas are at the waterpark.
